I did not expect anything from this game, but it sure did overpass them.
I had fun! The core game is simple, easy to learn. The graphics and the music creates a really nice old retro fuzzy vibe kind of thing, I love it! But restarting the whole game for dying is just absurd.
I get that it does add to the retro feel, but its just plain annoying. I would've loved to just restart the level quickly (the death screen does take a bit of time but its not too bad), and just experiment more.
Apart from that, the tutorial being optional is a bit of a mixed bag. Creating a simple first level where players get to learn and experience the game is a much better option than a separate and optional tutorial, but the tutorial itself was fine.
The loading screen moving thing is interesting, paired with the "restart whole game if dead" thing, it just adds more friction between retries.
All in all I think the game is cool, the core game is a fun little one, execution is done well too, but the whole restart thing kinda throws it out of tune for me.
